Indigenous Mexican Migrants at a Meeting in California

SANTA MARIA, CA - 12/1/13 - Indigenous Mexican immigrants in California meet iin a statewide meeting of the Binational Front of Indigenous Organizations (FIOB - Frente Indigena de Organizaciones Binacionales). FIOB advocates for the rights of indigenous Mexicans, including Mixtecs, Zapotecs, Triquis, Purepechas and others, both in the United States, where they live as immigrants, and in Mexico. At the meeting delegates elected new leaders, welcomed striking farmworkers from Sakuma Berry Farms in Washington State, and signed an agreement with United Food and Commercial Workers Local 5. Mothers brought their children, who drew pictures and numbers on paper during the meeting.
